A great state park thats located a short drive from the city making it a great place easy to escape to. Whenever I visit, its for a hike and Ive never been disappointed. I would highly recommend the Iron Hill Loop trail for a quiet hike with great views of the lake, but you cant go wrong with any of the trails here.

Red Top is a beautiful area with plenty of trails, picnic areas, and beaches. Parking is $5 unless you have a pass. The view of the lake and hills are gorgeous from almost anywhere you stand around the lake.In the winter when the water levels are down, there is a lot more beach area to explore. On a nice, warmer winter day, we enjoy bringing our dogs and exploring around the shores. The campground is nice too— we’ve been dozens of times over the years, but it’s almost always booked up well in advance these days.

We visited Red Top Mountain State Parks campground in September 2020 and stayed in campsite #8. We camped in a 35 foot 5th wheel. The campground is very pretty and the sites are well spaced apart however very few are made for bigger rigs and it can be a challenge to get into and/or out of the sites. Our site was a pull through and easy to get into. It was oddly angled with a very steep drop off at one end with large rocks (boulders even) in the driveway. We were not confident that we could make the turn at the end of the site due to a large rock and several trees so backed our way out. Driving out of the circle was very close with trees and we had to go carefully so as not to hit anything on the way out. It is a lovely state park but I would caution any with bigger rigs to be aware of the close quarters.

The park is beautiful. Site 19-21 are very small and very rocky and not suitable for RVs. The bathrooms are GROSS- the camp host never came by had to hunt them down and beg for bathrooms to be cleaned. Lots of trash thru out this nook very disappointed for the cost vs. Upkeep.Kids enjoyed rope swing and climbing the near by rocks.

Beautiful park with tons of space and close to the lake. Plenty of options for everyone from biking to swimming to fishing to boating to hiking, this place has it all! Tons of shade for hot summer days and great places for picnics or camping or whatever you like. Ive been visiting Red Top Mountain for 35 years now, and I love to bring my own little girls. The trails are beautiful, moss grows everywhere, over logs and stumps, (what my girls call fairy castles.) Theres a great little visitors center there, a decent beach and boat ramp. Take $5 to park. And enjoy. Go at dusk and drive very carefully back through the roads and I guarantee youll see a deer.

We came here to kayak for a couple hours and it was wonderful. The lake is huge and this park gives you good access to everything. There a lot of space and areas to access the water. You can explore freely and have a great time, although it was rather busy with boats when we went on 4th of July weekend. Regardless, it’s a beautiful area that offers kayaking, boating, hiking and biking. We would love to return.

This review is for the campground only. Negatives first. After getting backed into our site (86) with difficulty due to the narrow road and obstacles, we find that our door faces up close to another camper and our picnic table and firepit are on the opposite side.Exiting this site will be a problem too. The campground roads are narrow with asphalt crumbling on the edges allowing RV tires to find all the holes. We previewed our sons site who was planning to join us and found that it had a sharp incline and just enough room for a small camper to be level all the way back. It is described as a nice long site with no mention of the slope. This is a very popular campground but as full time RVers we know how much better it could be with a little work. Many of the sites we saw were sloped to the extreme that a RV could not be made level or were really close together.Positives: the shower house at the beginning of the campground across from the dump station is nice. It was clean and bright. There is a laundry! A nice book exchange is near the womens room. We chose to use the family shower facility which was very roomy and private. The various comfort stations around the campground were adequate. We enjoyed a herd of deer as we relaxed at our site. Power is stable and water pressure is good. The campground is quiet. We are looking forward to the numerous hiking trails in the main park. This is an excellent tent camping park however. The tent sites are mostly situated with lovely views. I would highly recommend it for small pop ups, vans or tentsOur best advise is to come in person if possible to preview and chose a site that will work for you before you reserve online.

Friends and I rented a boat for the day and went out on the lake. The lake has a few docks here and there if you need to stop for food, or the restroom. Overall we had a great trip. The lake can be a little hard to navigate if you arent paying attention to which fork you are going up, and it can get pretty choppy if its a high wind day so keep that in mind. Defiently would recommend finding the restaurant where they filmed the Ozark show and eating there.

Attending my daughters wedding I did notice that although the kitchen had all the appliances they were not in top shape, and there was no air conditioning. The park is always beautiful, I make sure you ask all the pregnant questions if youre going to rent one of the buildings for an event. Ask about cleanliness, functionality of appliances, whether or not it has air conditioner or heat depending on the season.

Beautiful park and lake! We camped for two nights. The campgrounds are wonderful with their own private lake access points away from the crowds. We stayed in campsite 21 and unfortunately the drop off from the asphalt to the dirt was about 8-9 inches (couldnt tell it was that big of a difference) and popped our tire and car almost got stuck right when we arrived (we have a jeep to boot). Seems it has been eroded away over time from runoff. We spoke with a maintenance worker and they said it was the third tire blown at that site just this summer, and that they had previously informed management several times of this issue.I spoke with management and he said he was sorry and theyll look into getting it fixed. I hope they do, as that is the only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5. Perfect stay otherwise and we didnt let it bother us until time to go home.Well be back!

We love Red Top as a place to both stop by for a day hike and to camp. I would say the camp ground is a little snug for our liking but the proximity to the water and trails is hard to beat and the camp hosts are usually very helpful although I know they change yearly. Our favorite trail is the Homestead Trail. Begins to the left of the Visitors Center (if you’re facing the door) and leads you down by the lake but at right around 5 miles can be a haul if you aren’t prepared. Watch out for snakes in the summer! We’ve seen a few sunning on different occasions.

The park could be nice, but it is unregulated. I went there yesterday to fish in an area labeled by the sign as a fishing area. I was starting to get bites, noticed there were fish there. Shortly after arriving, a guy, who did not speak English, and his family came drifting into the area on a raft with loud music. Needless to say, I did not get any bites after this. The park does have desinated swimming areas for swimming, but I am not sure they can enforce the activities in each areas base d on the signs which was part of the problem. I just wanted to fish in peace, but found it hard to find a quiet spot.

Our family of 4 rented the yurt for 3 nights in August. I will say the grounds surrounding the yurt are gorgeous. The bathroom is close by and you can walk down to the lake. Interesting rock formations scatter the area.I am not sure what we paid $90 per night for though. The 2 futon mattresses were so thin and the metal part of the frame was weak, so you either had a bar in your back, or you felt like you were sliding off. The mattress on the top bunk looked like it would be comfortable, but it didnt have a waterproof cover on it like the other two, and it looked nasty. The outlets in the yurt worked, but not the one next to the picnic table. The whole thing needed a major pressure wash. This was not glamping and we all wished we had just reserved a regular campsite and used our tent. YURT NOT WORTH IT!!!
