Red Top Mountain State Park
50 Lodge Rd SE, Acworth, GA 30102, United States

Review №1

A great state park for hiking, trails and picnics. Youll love the beautiful trees and trails inside. Parking is $5. There is a tennis court and sitting areas.

Review №2

Amazingly beautiful. Nature at its best. Great hiking, swimming, biking, camping.Few State parks in America are more enjoyable.Cartersville is a charming town less than 3 miles from the park.Campground has great RV areas for every size..many with great isolation from otherss.Only down side is the campground comfort stations. Will not overjudge...but if your prepared.

Review №3

A great state park thats located a short drive from the city making it a great place easy to escape to. Whenever I visit, its for a hike and Ive never been disappointed. I would highly recommend the Iron Hill Loop trail for a quiet hike with great views of the lake, but you cant go wrong with any of the trails here.

Review №4

Red Top is a beautiful area with plenty of trails, picnic areas, and beaches. Parking is $5 unless you have a pass. The view of the lake and hills are gorgeous from almost anywhere you stand around the lake.In the winter when the water levels are down, there is a lot more beach area to explore. On a nice, warmer winter day, we enjoy bringing our dogs and exploring around the shores. The campground is nice too— we’ve been dozens of times over the years, but it’s almost always booked up well in advance these days.

Review №5

We visited Red Top Mountain State Parks campground in September 2020 and stayed in campsite #8. We camped in a 35 foot 5th wheel. The campground is very pretty and the sites are well spaced apart however very few are made for bigger rigs and it can be a challenge to get into and/or out of the sites. Our site was a pull through and easy to get into. It was oddly angled with a very steep drop off at one end with large rocks (boulders even) in the driveway. We were not confident that we could make the turn at the end of the site due to a large rock and several trees so backed our way out. Driving out of the circle was very close with trees and we had to go carefully so as not to hit anything on the way out. It is a lovely state park but I would caution any with bigger rigs to be aware of the close quarters.

Review №6

We love this place! The trails are beautiful, especially The Iron Hill Trail. Me and my daughter sometimes stop along the lake for a swim and hang our hammocks and just look around. There are always people there so I feel safe.

Review №7

The park is beautiful. Site 19-21 are very small and very rocky and not suitable for RVs. The bathrooms are GROSS- the camp host never came by had to hunt them down and beg for bathrooms to be cleaned. Lots of trash thru out this nook very disappointed for the cost vs. Upkeep.Kids enjoyed rope swing and climbing the near by rocks.

Review №8

My family is staying in one of the cottages in this beautiful park. Were enjoying the many hiking trails and the easy lake access for kayaking, etc.

Review №9

Nice park plenty of trails, good for running, walking, biking; good fishing spots and pets friendly.Clean bathrooms, hot water showers.Mens bathroom missing soap dispenser.Weekends are pretty loud with boats and pontoons. We definitely will come back!

Review №10

Many well maintained trails to choose from for both avid and novice hikers. We did a 3 mile course with a 3 yr old and it was the best time.

Review №11

Their pack is lovely and the trails are beautiful. I always enjoy hiking at Red Top Mnt

Review №12

Probably the best like in Georgia. Water was really warm and the color, amazing. Great quiet place to camp out.

Review №13

Great hikes. Well maintained and marked trails. Homestead Loop is challenging but worth it! Half of the trail is right on the water. Most from cliff height. Some access. Iron Hill trail is flat but has great water access.

Review №14

Beautiful park with tons of space and close to the lake. Plenty of options for everyone from biking to swimming to fishing to boating to hiking, this place has it all! Tons of shade for hot summer days and great places for picnics or camping or whatever you like. Multiple parking places keeps each place more open and most of the trails are moderate at worst with a few people easy ones. Pet, kid, and age friendly. A great place to visit

Review №15

Ive been visiting Red Top Mountain for 35 years now, and I love to bring my own little girls. The trails are beautiful, moss grows everywhere, over logs and stumps, (what my girls call fairy castles.) Theres a great little visitors center there, a decent beach and boat ramp. Take $5 to park. And enjoy. Go at dusk and drive very carefully back through the roads and I guarantee youll see a deer.

Review №16

Its an older park, but the Visitor Center is new, clean and all the paths are paved in that area. Nice for those of us with mobility issues

Review №17

We came here to kayak for a couple hours and it was wonderful. The lake is huge and this park gives you good access to everything. There a lot of space and areas to access the water. You can explore freely and have a great time, although it was rather busy with boats when we went on 4th of July weekend. Regardless, it’s a beautiful area that offers kayaking, boating, hiking and biking. We would love to return.

Review №18

Such a pleasant hike on the Homestead Trail. Got some distance but not so strenuous that we couldnt catch up with friends along the way. It was a nice wide trail, too, which made it easy to pass others. A little hard to find parking on a Saturday though.

Review №19

Great, well maintained trails and facilities super close to Atlanta. Perfect for a quick 5 mile hike.

Review №20

Wonderful hike, lots of trees down from storm but easy to get around...or under. Homestead was lovely on sunny cool day... great fun with a good bit of pleasant uphills for exercise

Review №21

My new favorite hangout place. I enjoy getting away from it all and coming up to watch the marine life. Never any traffic.Great place for groups or for solitude.Bring a meal for yourself or buy food here.Theres plenty to enjoy for free and plenty to enjoy with cash flow.Come on a whim and come with your made plans. Bring your party bus or bring your bikes.Stay for an hour or stay longer. There are picnic areas and cabins and hotels nearby.Check in with Groupon and dont miss out on all that the park has to offer.

Review №22

This review is for the campground only. Negatives first. After getting backed into our site (86) with difficulty due to the narrow road and obstacles, we find that our door faces up close to another camper and our picnic table and firepit are on the opposite side.Exiting this site will be a problem too. The campground roads are narrow with asphalt crumbling on the edges allowing RV tires to find all the holes. We previewed our sons site who was planning to join us and found that it had a sharp incline and just enough room for a small camper to be level all the way back. It is described as a nice long site with no mention of the slope. This is a very popular campground but as full time RVers we know how much better it could be with a little work. Many of the sites we saw were sloped to the extreme that a RV could not be made level or were really close together.Positives: the shower house at the beginning of the campground across from the dump station is nice. It was clean and bright. There is a laundry! A nice book exchange is near the womens room. We chose to use the family shower facility which was very roomy and private. The various comfort stations around the campground were adequate. We enjoyed a herd of deer as we relaxed at our site. Power is stable and water pressure is good. The campground is quiet. We are looking forward to the numerous hiking trails in the main park. This is an excellent tent camping park however. The tent sites are mostly situated with lovely views. I would highly recommend it for small pop ups, vans or tentsOur best advise is to come in person if possible to preview and chose a site that will work for you before you reserve online.

Review №23

This is a great family place. There are places to fish, boat, swim, and hike. The park is very large and theres always a new spot to discover. Parking is $5, or there is an option for an annual pass.

Review №24

Beautiful place. Nice trails. Scenic views. We keep coming back.

Review №25

I love this lake ..The cabins are up to date & very savy ..A great get away from. The hustle & bustle

Review №26

Beautiful place with mesmerizing colors of the fall at the moment. There is also a lake and trails to walk around. Nature lovers and people looking for some peace and quite time must definitely visit

Review №27

Great spot for family picnics, boating, swimming, and frisbee. Busy during Summer months, but plenty of spaces off of the main areas for families to discover. The lake is accessible for swimming in many areas. The beach is clean and offers restrooms. The visitors centers offer lake shore tables for picnics and swimming.

Review №28

Friends and I rented a boat for the day and went out on the lake. The lake has a few docks here and there if you need to stop for food, or the restroom. Overall we had a great trip. The lake can be a little hard to navigate if you arent paying attention to which fork you are going up, and it can get pretty choppy if its a high wind day so keep that in mind. Defiently would recommend finding the restaurant where they filmed the Ozark show and eating there.

Review №29

Attending my daughters wedding I did notice that although the kitchen had all the appliances they were not in top shape, and there was no air conditioning. The park is always beautiful, I make sure you ask all the pregnant questions if youre going to rent one of the buildings for an event. Ask about cleanliness, functionality of appliances, whether or not it has air conditioner or heat depending on the season.

Review №30

This is one of numerous beautiful state parks in Georgia. Red Top is very convenient, right off 75 andthere are multiple exits depending on which area you are going to like the beach, or trails. If you are a nature lover, and desire a little peace and solitude this park is for you. If you love fishing its definitely for you. There are numerous other activities to do at Red Top Mountain. There is also a $ 5.00 daily parking pass.

Review №31

Had not been here in years. It was absolutely beautiful and such a great facility. Will definitely return. A gem close to home.

Review №32

Great day hike, within an hour of Atlanta. Homestead trail is a good 2 hour and 5.5 miles of medium hardness, with about 1,200 feet elevation gain and 850 feet drop. Well groomed trails but honking boots recommended due to roots and some rocks. Overall, a nice exercise and scenery. Highly recommend!

Review №33

Its beautiful and totally nature at its best, only reason not 5 stars is they should have warning signs that some of the loops are not friendly for travel trailers over 28 feet long.

Review №34

Great, easy to read maps with different, but all easy trails to walk/hike and/or ride a bike. There is a nice beach area to swim in the lake with mini golf right next door. The mini golf is presently closed during Covid, but maybe you could bring your own clubs and balls and have some fun. There are clean bathrooms, tennis courts, camping and cabins to rent. We enjoyed our time and would come back!

Review №35

Most of the trails here dont have huge elevation changes, and are in great shape. This is my first time on the homestead trail, and it was beautiful! They just built a new visitor center and my fiancee says its pretty nice, but it was closed during my visit due to the recent covid rules. The lake is nice and the dam has a nice corp of engineers visitor center also.

Review №36

Nice and lovely park. This place is right by a lake where you can rent a boat too.

Review №37

Wow, this was a hidden gem. Decided to stop while driving through GA and very glad we did. There are beautiful trails, so we walked and biked. Then we saw there was a beach area to swim in the lake. We made plans to stay the night in our tent. The kids loved the fireflies and deer.

Review №38

Lots to do the view is very nice. I spent 5 days camping and had a great time, I cant wait to go back.

Review №39

Great, easy hike. Trails are very well maintained and the facilities such as the Visitor Center feel brand new. The lake has really low water levels right now which is actually a pretty cool sight. Ill definitely be back later in the year to check out a couple of the trails I skipped on today.

Review №40

Well kept and plenty of tables for picnicking by the lake. The water is pretty clear and there were quite a few swimmers out today. Love this park

Review №41

Wonderful hiking trails and views of lake. Nice wide paved trails. Parking is limited. Wish GA dept would do a better job with the (free) trail maps. Parking/entrance fee is $5 per vehicle. Use envelopes and hanging pass from self serve kiosks at each location (look for them, not in obvious locations).. there are campgrounds, picnic shelters and boat ramps.

Review №42

A great place to take a walk with your family. I love the bench swings overlooking the lake. So nice and peaceful.

Review №43

Had a blast out at this park yesterday. It was a little windy out but the weather was nice. Had a chance to walk around and see the lake and spend time with the family. So if you just want to get away and see nature at its finest then take a trip here. There are swings for the kids, restrooms and even picnic tables for that forgotten family get together.

Review №44

Absolutely gorgeous park with well-maintained and relaxing hiking trails. Will come back to camp here in the future.

Review №45

Beautiful park and lake! We camped for two nights. The campgrounds are wonderful with their own private lake access points away from the crowds. We stayed in campsite 21 and unfortunately the drop off from the asphalt to the dirt was about 8-9 inches (couldnt tell it was that big of a difference) and popped our tire and car almost got stuck right when we arrived (we have a jeep to boot). Seems it has been eroded away over time from runoff. We spoke with a maintenance worker and they said it was the third tire blown at that site just this summer, and that they had previously informed management several times of this issue.I spoke with management and he said he was sorry and theyll look into getting it fixed. I hope they do, as that is the only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5. Perfect stay otherwise and we didnt let it bother us until time to go home.Well be back!

Review №46

We went here for my moms friends daughters sweet 16 and it is AWSOME!! We were at camp 91 and the lake was down the woods from it. It is truly amazing! We got to sit on the huge rocks and play and canoe in the lakes. It was so much fun, it couldnt have gone better.

Review №47

I love it here!!! I have walked all the trails, and my dog and I really enjoy them. There are great swim spots in the warmer months and peaceful spots for the cooler days. Would highly recommend spending time here.

Review №48

Beautiful place! Kayak, hike or just chill. Just learned about it recently.

Review №49

Super long hike and beautiful lake views. The walk doesnt have to be long unless you make it long there are tons of different paths you can follow. There is a parking fee you pay it in one of the little boxes.

Review №50

This is such a beautiful park. Looked like they had lots of trails. Great swimming area. Lots of boat ramps and marina within. Great location being right off of 75 between Chattanooga and Atlanta with lots to do in the towns surrounding. Our family will definitely return.

Review №51

I love red top. Nice hiking trails for waterfront views, wildlife, and Georgia line forests. Go early in the day and you might see a deer. What a lovely state park ️

Review №52

Very scenic and the sites are far apart so you dont feel crowded. Slightly run down though, could use a little TLC.

Review №53

Amazing experience. Great place for boating

Review №54

We normally enjoy this park and have rented the cottages, camped and use the trails. This time was terrible!!!! They did not tell us there was construction and 30 cars would be blocking our path out and our drive. Just to make it fun the power went out too! When we reported it we got, Im not the power company great! Not so great this time, please check for construction if you rent a cottage

Review №55

Beautiful park with nice blue water & great boating experiences. Would highly recommend for camping and overnight stays.

Review №56

Beautiful fern trail. Different terrain than usual Georgia trails.

Review №57

Great staff. Fun clean beach . Clean and quiet campgrounds. Hosts are real nice and helpful. Bathrooms need more shower stalls. I would definitely come back here when visiting Atlanta in the future.

Review №58

Red Top Mountain has some good trails and awesome views. My family loves it here

Review №59

Red Top Mountain State Park was beautiful! The drive all the way up was incredibly scenic, and we enjoyed the time up to the park. There are beautiful cabin party rentals for day use, and some that come with kitchen access! There are also spacious pavilion rentals available! We simple adored our day at a family function! Beautiful view of the lake and mountains, and not to mention spacious room for a very large family gathering, party, and possibly a wedding! We will definitely be returning for many more family occasions and even for family picnic days! Love Red Mountain State Park!

Review №60

Nicely maintained Homestead trail. Great trail to be outdoors. Depending on which activity watch you use...6-7 miles. Not very busy for a Saturday morning but just enough people to not feel out alone. I loved it! Would definitely like to hike this one again.

Review №61

We love Red Top as a place to both stop by for a day hike and to camp. I would say the camp ground is a little snug for our liking but the proximity to the water and trails is hard to beat and the camp hosts are usually very helpful although I know they change yearly. Our favorite trail is the Homestead Trail. Begins to the left of the Visitors Center (if you’re facing the door) and leads you down by the lake but at right around 5 miles can be a haul if you aren’t prepared. Watch out for snakes in the summer! We’ve seen a few sunning on different occasions.

Review №62

The park could be nice, but it is unregulated. I went there yesterday to fish in an area labeled by the sign as a fishing area. I was starting to get bites, noticed there were fish there. Shortly after arriving, a guy, who did not speak English, and his family came drifting into the area on a raft with loud music. Needless to say, I did not get any bites after this. The park does have desinated swimming areas for swimming, but I am not sure they can enforce the activities in each areas base d on the signs which was part of the problem. I just wanted to fish in peace, but found it hard to find a quiet spot.

Review №63

State park so no sewage, 30 plus sites have to share one restroom/shower. It would be nice to have more restroom/ showers available. Our site had alot of red mud so you need to bring straw. We had racoons coming into our site as well.

Review №64

Best hike nice and long. The trails are easy to follow.

Review №65

Love!!! Love, LOVE!!! Just wow!!! So much green, so many views! Only took a few, find the rest for yourself!! You wont be disappointed, swim, kayak, boat, float... have fun!

Review №66

Vert easy access from the Interstate. 4 hour boat rental. Great experience. The boat prep was delayed, so use was extended. Awesome!

Review №67

Loved it! Clean site. Clean bathrooms with showers.....cleaned twice daily. We were here visiting from New Jersey.

Review №68

This place is nature’s paradise with a man made beach ..Although the name is red top mountain but you will find a mountain beach which is so good . Must visit the first island. Amazing place for fresh air, green outing, picnic and camping ..

Review №69

Nice and peaceful. Plenty of parking with different areas so you can enter the park from different sides of the lake or trail areas. Great place to have a picnic.

Review №70

Ranger was great, came out and ran a leaf blower to quickly clean a picnic shelter for us.

Review №71

We use the Red Top Mountain State park boat ramp. We go early to beat the crowd with the very limited parking spaces. Two ramps and easy access to the main part of the lake. Did I say go early before it fills up on weekends and holidays?

Review №72

One if the best state parks in the north Georgia area. Friendly host and staff. Miles of great hiking and mtn biking. Deer and other wildlife throughout the park.

Review №73

Different areas to this park is what makes it 5 star. Find you a cozy area.

Review №74

Camped here for a week. Iron hill trail is a multi use trail and we biked it. Is about 5 miles starting in the campground. Other hiking trails are nice. They have a new visitor center and you can swim there or launch your kayak from the shore. Also 2 other boat ramps. Water is beautiful ! Would camp here again.

Review №75

This park is pretty amazing. The campsites are large wth plenty of room between you and others. The bathrooms are okay. In my opinion they are not that clean. Our campsite was next to the water and it was convenient when we rented kayaks and carrying down to the river. For the most part the water is very calm which is perfect for someone who is a beginner at kayaking. My husband went fishing in the morning and enjoyed being close to the water as well. We had a great stay and will be back. This place gets booked up pretty fast for camping so make sure to book in advance.

Review №76

Always a great place to go off the grid (secluded camping) big beach for swimming and tanning and grilling out with friends and family, or perhaps you want to hike the many trails that awaits you. ......Beautiful views, picturesque

Review №77

This is the boat ramp, just over the entry bridge.Red Top is a large part with a variety of spots on the water. Even on a crowded weekend, there can be found a bit of tranquility..

Review №78

Our family of 4 rented the yurt for 3 nights in August. I will say the grounds surrounding the yurt are gorgeous. The bathroom is close by and you can walk down to the lake. Interesting rock formations scatter the area.I am not sure what we paid $90 per night for though. The 2 futon mattresses were so thin and the metal part of the frame was weak, so you either had a bar in your back, or you felt like you were sliding off. The mattress on the top bunk looked like it would be comfortable, but it didnt have a waterproof cover on it like the other two, and it looked nasty. The outlets in the yurt worked, but not the one next to the picnic table. The whole thing needed a major pressure wash. This was not glamping and we all wished we had just reserved a regular campsite and used our tent. YURT NOT WORTH IT!!!

Review №79

We didnt rent any water vehicles but next time we will. It looked like a lot of fun. My friends go often.

Review №80

Beautiful place. Good size campsites with picnic tables, water, and outlets. Bathrooms with showers within walking distance. My family had a great time playing in the lake and we will definitely go back.

Review №81

Beautiful scenery, quiet campground, not far from highway. Haved stayed a couple times and really enjoyed our stays.

Review №82

My favorite camp near Atlanta. Beautiful pull thru sites with access to lakeshore.

Review №83

We stopped by one of the landing for a birthday party, it was great, the water was good, there was a log to jump off of, and the park ranger is usually around... thats always nice.

Review №84

This place is Amazing I love the out doors and to be surrounded by water

Review №85

Located on beautiful Lake Allatoona. One of the best parks around the Lake. Often very crowded but a really fun place to spend a day.

Review №86

Great family friendly state park. We enjoy hiking, swimming and picnicing here with our two golden retrievers.

Review №87

Did the red trail called Sweet Gum which was 3.5 miles long. The hike was relaxing and the foliage was beautiful!

Review №88

Red Top Mountain State Park is a great park with adventure for hikers and boaters alike. There is a boat ramp, but also good opportunities to put a small craft in the water.Trails come in easy to moderate. There is even a wheelchair accessible trail.Camping is available with hookups and without.

Review №89

Loved it, the place is huge. A little busy but each camping spot is nicely spaced. Theres also a lot to do.

Review №90

Very good place for grill. Also you can swim in the man made beach. The river back water is amazing and very chill. You can ride boat and jetski as well. Atmosphere is very good and crowd also large.

Review №91

Great campground with friendly people. Lake was low in January. Our campsite was odd because it had one driveway for two people. Luckily, we didn’t have any unknown neighbors. Campground was quiet at night. Restrooms were clean. Overall, really beautiful campground.

Review №92

Amazingly beautiful! The trails are beautiful and view of the lake and hills are gorgeous!

Review №93

Family friendly. Beautiful park. Very clean. We were able to picnic and spend time with family. The water was nice. We swam and never had to worry about boat traffic. There is a $5 parking fee. We parked by our picnic spot. I would definitely return

Review №94

Gorgeous! Our campsite overlooked the water and had a path down to a practically private beach. Some steep sides, but it also made for very spaced out sites.

Review №95

Fun and Enjoyable experience. Also has some history to it. The trails are awesome. Rent a waverunner and just ride.

Review №96

Multiple hiking trails of all skill levels. Beautiful lake and other sites. Even with COVID restrictions in place (visitor cut closed) still plenty to see and do.

Review №97

The staff was quick to help when I needed them. My kids caught a few fish from the shore and we swam in the lake. The bathrooms are showing their age but were a short walk away and had one shower. Overall a great park to take the family.

Review №98

We camp here several times a year and it is a favorite park. The rangers and volunteers are helpful, and the campers are polite and observe the quiet time hours. Bathrooms are clean and stocked, and the hiking trails are well-kept. Thumbs up!

Review №99

One of the best treasures just outside the city of Atlanta ️

Review №100

Good place for a swim and picnic. It has beach area ropes off. Unfortunately today at the changing rooms were closed. So I could not change and take a swim. I did have small picnic and ate my sandwiches and snacks.
