Fantastic experience to sail on a tall ship! The crew was super kind and took time to answer questions when they were not busy hauling up the yard and pulling out the clew.

My husband & I sailed from Port of Oakland CA. We were aboard the Lady for a Jazz concert sail. Amazing crew. Helpful. Answered multitude of questions & even got to help hoist the sails. Would love to take a pasage when they come to California again.

Lets start by quoting the description of an Adventure sail on the official website: You’ll experience sailing as it has been done for hundreds of years and are invited to join our crew in hauling lines and setting sails. Learn about the history of American maritime exploration and take part in a few sea shanties. This is one adventure you are sure to never forget! This description is not what I experienced. In August 2020 I went on a 2 hour adventure sail because 3 hour wasnt available due to Covid scares. There were some restrictions like mask at all times, even when way past 6 feet on the boat. So photos were trash. You cant see below deck due to it being living quarters and the virus. Ok I can accept these but no chance for good photos was a bust. Why not provide 2 mintues for a few pictures at a safe distance? This though isnt the worst part.Im a fan and lover of the tall ships of old. The idea I was going to sail on one was a dream come true. But it wasnt as dream at all. First of all we didnt haul lines and set sails at all. The history the captain told was a bit about trade and otter pelts and thats all we got. There was no sea shanties. So what about the sailing part?Well first off they have an engine on board which I get its 2020; however they use it to cast off, navigate the water, and dock again. There is a small period of time youre sailing but even then you hear the loud idling motor the entire trip. This ruined the idea we were sailing at all. It was annoying. Then the sail itself was out of Aberdeens port. We literally went up a shipping channel maybe a mile and half then turned around and docked. The whole time we saw nothing but the shipping channel. This was no sailing adventure at all! We stood on a ship and thats about it. Boring as hell even for a fan.At the end they asked for tips for a crew treat. I gave them one because I support the mission. But what a let down. Its as if the crew has done this so many times they lost their will to make the sail an adventure. It was BORING! Come on guys you can do better than this. I cant even recommend this now due to my experience and thats sad. My gf who is not a fan of ships at all couldnt wait for it to be over. But someone like me should of been having the time of his life. Nope!At least I was on the HMS Interceptor/Lady Washington so I have a cool story to tell. ugh...

Amazing sailing on the Lady Washington! Everything was top notch, from the singing of shanty songs to the firing of the cannon. Worth every penny!!

We sailed with them out of Monterey bay. We got on the Hawaiian Chieftan. The crew were friendly and personable, even when we were in the way (which they never said but I was standing in front of lines they needed and they were so polite!)The day was not ideal for sailing, wind and rain, even a little hail. Yet I am fully planning on going again!

Wonderful adventure! The crew had great interaction with all of the passengers, young and old. This was an amazing learning experience watching the crew first hand. Safety is at the forefront of everything they do, yet giving guests a firsthand look at the historical tallships. Have sailed on both ships, and this experience is like no other! Take the whole family for a memorable event.

Worst experience ever. Bought tickets months ago... first sail was cancelled about a month before. Got a voucher to any sail. Reschedule for today. Take a day off work, drive 3 hours to Astoria.... get email that my sail has been canceled and $0.00 refund because our tickets were vouchers from the first cancelation. Glad we took the time off work and spent gas money to have lunch. We were looking forward to sailing with you for months! This is the biggest disappointment I’ve ever experienced.

Well, we didn’t even get to board a ship. We were moved from Newport to Astoria. I lost money w/ accommodation cancellation. Then moved from Sunday to Saturday in Astoria. Then last minute we received an email that said the ship would arrive late. So sorry. You’re cancelled. It’s seems to me lack of planning w/ ports, arrival and business processes (unlike the weather/tide) is controllable. “Unforseeable” is a term used by poor planners. I’m sure the ships are lovely, just don’t count on this experience for your son’s birthday gift. There may be a let down last minute. I know it’s only a pleasure cruise, it’s not life or death, but it’s still a big impact on a average American working family.

Bought tickets many months ago, but a few weeks before our sail we are told there will not be one. The port of new port pulled the contract, so no dock available. It took DAYS to finally get a new time date and port booked. This time in Astoria, I do not like astoria but it would be fun because we actually got the battle sail we had originally wanted. Cut to today 7/26 our sail is tomorrow 7/27 at 2,but WAIT FOR IT......... .Its canceled!!!!!!!!!! Not enough crew to sail to astoria from coos bay,was the reason given. We have now lost money twice having to cancel hotel rooms, and take off work. So to be told we would rather be sailing we arent making any money,we are sorry by someone who really didnt seem sorry, just doesnt sit well. What a great memory that was so needed. Ironically had we just kept it original evening sail, I think the boats in for that one.
